Camp Nou, FC Barcelona’s legendary football stadium

Camp nou during football trip

FC Barcelona plays all of its home games in the temple of football, Camp Nou. The stadium currently has a capacity of 99,354 spectators, and is uncovered. Works are right now underway at the stadium, which is being expanded to 105,000 seas, with all the stands being covered. The Camp Nou museum is also being revamped.

If you go and attend an FC Barcelona match, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how friendly the atmosphere is there. Visiting a football match in Barcelona is a real family occasion.

The gates of Camp Nou open 1.5 hours before the match commences.

How to reach Camp Nou?

FC Barcelona’s legendary football stadium is located in the south west of the city in the Les Corts district, around five kilometres from the centre. Barcelona’s public transport system is well organised, and plenty buses, metros and trams stop at the stadium.

However, we don’t recommend going to Camp Nou by car or taxi, unless setting off well in advance. It’s highly congested around the stadium on FC Barcelona match days, and parking is both a nightmare, and extremely expensive. Opt for using public transport.

By metro to Camp Nou

There are two metro lines in Barcelona that can take you to Camp Nou.

Line 3, green line from the centre.

With line 3, you can get off at various stops around the stadium. This is also the line running from the centre of Barcelona. You can get off at the following stops:

  • Les Corts station, which is the closest to Camp Nou at five minutes’ walking.
  • Maria Cristina station
  • Palau Reial station

These stops are around a ten-minute walk away from Camp Nou.

Camp Nou address details
Camp Nou Football Stadium
Aristides Maillol

Line 5, blue line

This line runs from the area around Sagrada Família. Travel in the direction of Cornellà Centre and get off at one of the following stations:

  • Badal station (6 minutes’ walk)
  • Collblanc station (7 minutes’ walk)

By bus to Camp Nou

If you’d like to get to Camp Nou by bus, you can take the following lines: D20, H6, H8, 7, 33, 54, 56, 57, 59, 63, 67, 68, 70, 75, 78, 113, 157 & L12

If it’s got late after the FC Barcelona, there’s no need to worry. You can catch the night bus that runs throughout the night. You can take one of the following lines: N2, N3, N12 & N14.

Camp Nou plan

To give you an idea of which tickets you should purchase for the best seats in Camp Nou for your football trip: the stadium is subdivided into four sides and six different categories of football tickets.

The sides in Camp Nou stadium are:

  • West side, also known as Tribuna Located on Avinguda Arístides Maillol. This is Camp Nou’s main stand, which is covered for the most part.
  • East side, called Lateral. Located on Carrer de la Maternitat.
  • North side, Gol Nord. Located on Avinguda de Joan XXIII.
  • South side, Gol Sud Nike. Located on Travessera de les Corts. This is where aware supports sit. Don’t worry: the away supporters sit in their own section, in the upper tier.

Each of these sides is further subdivided into three tiers. Certain sides have a smaller fourth tier. If you’re booking your football trip with us, you’ll always ensured tickets on at least the third tier. Tickets are subdivided into a number or categories. See the picture.

FC Barcelona football tickets: how to know where you’re sitting

Once you’ve booked your football trip to FC Barcelona and received your match tickets, your ticket will display what’s below. Here’s a brief explanation of how the football tickets for FC Barcelona work.

Football ticket FC Barcelona

Accés (grounds entrance), this is where you can enter the Camp Nou grounds. By the way, using precisely this entrance isn’t compulsory, and neither is your FC Barcelona match ticket is not checked here. You can enter the grounds wherever you like.

Porta (stadium gate), this is the entrance for the stadium. You have to have your football ticket scanned here, and using the right entrance is obligatory in this case.

Boca (section), you now arrive onto the walkway of Camp Nou stadium. There are various entrances providing access to your seat. Pay close attention to your number.

Fila (which row), once you’re inside the stadium, look for your “Fila”. This is simply your row.

Seient (your seat), the final thing before kick-off is finding the right seat. Note that the seat numbering isn’t like what you’re used to. There are only odd or even numbers for each row: with numbers going up from seat 2, 4 to 6, etc. Or otherwise from seat 1, 3 to 5, etc. Enjoy the match!

VoetbalTravel does not sell individual ticket match tickets. You can, of course, come to us for the complete football trip.

Camp Nou stadium tour

No trip to Barcelona is in fact complete without booking a tour of the stadium. During the “Camp Nou Experience”, you’re taken on a tour through this club’s glorious past. You can either do an audio tour or, at an attention cost, be taken around by a guide. You follow a pre-determined route along which you can check out features such as the players’ changing rooms, you walk through the players’ tunnel (impressive), dugout, the press box from reporting is performed, you get a glimpse of the VIP boxes, and of course you visit the museum. There are sometimes queues and it might be half an hour before you can start the tour. There is no specific time associated with the tour, and you can spend just as long as you want, up to three hours before kick-off.

Please note: The museum closes three hours before the match starts on FC Barcelona match days, and it might be the case that certain elements cannot be accessed. We therefore recommend doing the tour on a day other than match days.

The price of a normal tour are €26, with a guided tour costing €53. For children aged 6 to 13, the price is €20. Younger children can enter free of charge.

PS: Did you know that Camp Nou museum is the most visited museum in the country?

Information about FC Barcelona

Where should we start with a global club such as this? Somewhat surprisingly, FC Barcelona was founded on 29 November 1899 by a Swiss, by the name of Hans Kamper. At the age of 22, we was in fact on his way to Africa to help set up a sugar trading company there, but ended up staying on in Barcelona. He was obsessed with football, and started ‘Football Club Barcelona’ along with a number of English and Swiss supporters, after having placed an advert in the Los Deportes sports paper.

Kamper – later changing his name to Joan Gamper – picked the club’s colours of blue and purple himself, and was the team’s first captain. He played 48 matches between 1899 and 1903, scoring more than one hundred times. As chairman, he went on to spend years as the driving force between the club’s further growth and development. His private life was, however, less fortunate. Plagued by personal and financial issues, he took his own life on 30 July 1930. In hour of the club’s founder, FC Barcelona still plays the opening game of the season for the Trofeu Joan Gamper annually to this day.

FC Barcelona logo

The FC Barcelona logo as we now know it was designed in 1910 by Carles Comamala, who played at the club from 1903 to 1912, and was also a medical student and gifted draughtsman. He won a competition held by the club to create a new club logo.

Since then, although the ‘escudo’ has been updated – last time in 2002 – its core has remained unchanged: Its shape is still that of an ‘olla’, a traditional Catalan cooking pot. The red cross on the white top-right section is the Cross of Saint Jorge, the patron saint of Catalonia. The adjacent section with red/yellow stripes symbolises the Senyera, the traditional flag of Barcelona and Catalonia. The letters F.C.B below of course stand for the club’s initials. The football is displayed in a section in the club’s colours blue and purple (blaugrana).

Jordi Cruijff, the son of Johan who also played with Barcelona for some time, also happens to have been named after Saint Jordi referred to in the logo.

Club logo Barcelona

The historic link between FC Barcelona and the Netherlands.

FC Barcelona has long had a close connection with the Netherlands. This of course all started with Rinus Michels, who introduced the Total Football of Ajax here. This baton was then later passed to Johan Cruijff, first as a player and then as coach. Johen Cruijff was commemorated with a statue at Camp Nou in 2019. The new stadium on the training complex was also christened after him, bearing the name “Estadi Johan Cruyff”.

FC Barcelona has had various Dutch coaches over the years: Michels, Cruijff, Louis van Gaal and Frank Rijkaard. It’s also had its fair share of Dutch platers, too: Neeskens, Kluivert, Koeman, the De Boer brothers, Van Bommel and Cocu, to name but a few.

At present, Frenkie de Jong occupies an important role at FC Barcelona. For many Dutch people, his present is reason enough to attend one of this club’s matches.

What to do in Barcelona

Barcelona is a global city through and through. Fantastic for football, but also the ideal choice for a city break or long weekend. The warm climate, inviting outdoor bars and – the icing on the cake – the beach. Spanish cuisine always has something in store, such as sharing tapas along with a large jug of sangria. That means if you’re attending FC Barcelona for a match, there’s also plenty of things to do on the rest of your stay. These are our favourite handouts in Barcelona.

  • Loved having everything booked in one package; so much easier to know that flights, hotel and match tickets are all sorted.
  • - Camp Nou is incredible! We paid for premium seats and the view couldn't have been better - exactly what we wanted. The atmosphere in the stadium is brilliant; supporters behind the goal kept the crowd entertained with their drumming and chanting throughout the whole match.
  • - Staff at FootballBreak.co.uk were so helpful whenever we had to contact them prior to our trip.

Tip: - The Camp Nou tour is worth a visit too if you like your football trivia and memorabilia. We spent longer there than I thought we would (about 4 hours!). We did the Camp Nou Tour Plus which included the museum, great view of the pitch from the stands, Press Room, tunnels, Away changing room (NOT the Barca dressing room), dugouts, edge of pitch, Virtual Reality experience, Press Boxes... Audio tour talks you through everything as you go round. - Try to work out which side of Camp Nou your Access point is for the football match. Camp Nou is in between Maria Cristina and Les Corts metro stops and where your access point is will depend which metro stop is closest for you (we got off at the 'wrong' stop for our access point so had a lot of extra walking to do!)

The whole package was completely smooth and really well organised. We were given all information when we needed it and everything went to plan. The hotel was pretty basic but in a great location and perfect for a short trip away. Our experience at Camp Nou was great - the seats were quite high up and out of the action but we were pretty happy with where we were sitting. Overall we had an amazing time - thank you Football Break for making it all such a pleasant experience!

Tip: Take advantage of the 2 day tour bus discount - definitely the easiest way to see all the city in a short time!

We booked a package with Football Break and could not have been happier with the level of professionalism we received from start to finish. Once the package was booked, I received e mail confirmation immediately with all the details I could possibly need for a great trip. Our flights were booked on our behalf and all we had to do was log into the website and check in. Our museum tickets arrived exactly when we were told they would.

Match tickets was a little bit more tricky as we were told that they would be sent to our hotel in Barcelona and ready for collecting on our arrival. I was a little apprehensive about this, but as promised, the tickets were waiting for us at reception without any drama. Seats in the Camp Nou were outstanding with a great view of the match. Our hotel was by no means luxurious but it was pretty central and within walking distance from the stadium. Overall, I was extremely happy with the whole package and would definitely use Football Breaks again.

Tip: Chose a hotel near to the stadium for ease of access. Always nice to walk to the stadium in Barcelona in order to soak up the atmosphere on the streets.

This is the second time i have booked with footballbreak.co.uk and yet again the service provided with absolutely fantastic! We had 12 adults in our party, so from the booking process to receiving match tickets straight away on our arrival to our hotel the whole process is made so simple and more relaxing knowing everything is taken care of. The atmosphere is the stadium was great and everybody enjoyed their day although Barcelona winning 6-1 may of helped with that along with the fabulous weather. I personally spoke with Rebecca from the company and she was great with every question i asked and made the booking process very easy. We stayed in a very central 3* hotel which was yet again a very clean, spacious and lovely place to stay in Barcelona.

Tip: Allow time before the game to take a walk round the stadium and shop to take in the atmosphere. Organise other tourist trips while your in the city to make the most of your weekend.

Loved Barcelona so much to see and want to go back. The stadium is amazing and a wonderful atmosphere even though Barca lost. The package worked well everything happened as expected The Hotel Abbot was a good choice very close to the metro made getting around so easy. The Ryanair flight was on time both ways and was very efficient. Did not see any representatives and did not need to call as everything went well. Will certainly use this service again.

Tip: You must do the stadium and museum tour. Also get a day metro ticket and explore particularly the magic fountain and La Sagreda Basillica. Also I recommend the OMG bar by the marina good beer and big screen tv.

I took my son to see Barcelona v Athletico Madrid. I can't compliment Football Breaks enough for a superbly organised trip. Flights were on time (arriving early both ways) and match tickets were waiting for use when we arrived at hotel. The Nou Camp atmosphere was incredible (especially when Barca scored). The seats we received were perfect and gave us a brilliant view of the game. The following day we had a great time exploring Barcelona city centre. On the final day we opted for the stadium tour & it's not to be missed. This trip was something I will never forget... Thank you Football Breaks
